Here are the latest updates from the May Committee Chairs Cabinet Meeting.

Rely on updates in a monthly email dedicated solely to progress made by each committee.  In the meantime, you can visit the 2020 committees bulletin board during coffee hour on Sundays, or anytime you are at Unity, for committee news and updates.  The board can be found in the Friendship Room.

Community Outreach

The Night Ministry Drive resulted in over $2000 in cash donations and requested items!  Thank you to all who were generous with in-kind gifts, including time and efforts.

The annual Unity Award is launching!  This award will be presented to an individual or organization that exemplifies unity, diversity, visibility, service, pride, and progress.  Be sure to attend service on Sunday, June 9 when this year’s recipient will be revealed.  Stay tuned for updates on how to submit nominations for future awards.

All are welcome to be a part of the Unity family that will march in this year’s Pride Parade on Sunday, June 30.

The Farm-to-Church Primal Roots program had a great kickoff month but fell short of meeting the minimum requirements to make an order for the month of May.  Many believe that the quality and price options are so great that they rival what you might find at some of the best grocers.  Your participation in the program will, in addition to fulfilling your shopping needs for meat, provide support for Unity. As a pickup location, Unity receives a portion of all sales.  Direct inquiries to Kelly Hoogenakker,

Investments from the sale of the building are being reviewed in preparation for the move later this year.

Location Search

The process of procuring a new home in Chicago can be unique!  We continue, with the engagement of our broker, to move forward beyond some challenges while affirming that our new home will be discovered at the perfect time.

We remain committed to our agreed-upon search criteria; there just is not, as one would think, a big pool of available properties which meet the criteria. We are competing both against traditional users of commercial properties and against residential developers.

We are continuing to review a couple strong candidate locations.  If you have questions beyond the updates, direct them to John Scothorn or Rev. James, who remind us to “up” our prayer game.

We are creating a coffee table book!  Please share your past Unity photos by requesting an upload link from Dan Paterno,

You can help elevate Unity’s visibility by starting a “live feed” of the meditation, Rev. James’ message, or the music on your Facebook page during service.

Make sure you are connected to Unity Chicago’s Facebook page so that you can “share” our content—especially the Daily Word—with your friends and audience.

Collaborative work continues with the Outreach and Welcome/Retention Committees on initiatives for membership growth.  Stay tuned for the next New Member Class schedule.

Spiritual Renewal

All are invited to a book study: How I Used Truth, by Emilie Cady.  We gather the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm for sessions facilitated by licensed Unity teacher Tom Skinner.

Thanks to all who participated in the Affirmative Prayer Workshop.  We are now collecting affirmative prayers for a forthcoming book of prayers. Contact Suellen Tobe regarding submissions.

Thank you to everyone who hosted and attended the “Imagining Our Future” gettogethers and the culminating potluck.  We are so grateful for your input into the visioning process!

There is more visioning to do! Get ready for the Community Vision Board on Wednesday, June 26.  Be a part of creating a visual representation of Unity Chicago’s future.  We are seeking artists to support the process.  Feel free to bring in magazines or other photo-rich publications or they can be dropped off in the back of the library.

The May “Coffee with the Minister” was very positive. It resulted in a heightened interest in taking classes, volunteering, & learning more about Unity Chicago.

The next “Coffee with the Minister” will be Sunday, June 30th after service.  Invite your friends and family for food and conversation.

Visitors have been commenting on the welcoming atmosphere at Unity Chicago! Let us continue with this positive energy by extending a welcoming gesture to anyone visiting, and please do invite anyone you know to attend Sunday services.
