Our unique Tudor building was built in the 1920’s and designed by architect George W. Maher, as a replica of Wimbledon. Maher, a contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright, is known for his contributions to Chicago architecture. Our “Home on Thome” is a hidden treasure on Chicago’s North side. The building originally served as the home for the posh Chicago Town and Tennis Club. Judging from the unique architectural details and the sloping slate roof, it is clear that the expense of construction was not an issue during the design or execution of the mansion! The building’s next evolution was as an Elks Lodge complete with a swimming pool and tennis courts.
The structure had been abandoned for ten years when Unity in Chicago found it in 1989. The love, dedication and energy of our many volunteers turned the neglected building into the treasured space it is today.
Our building and beautiful grounds reflect our members’ commitment to manifesting God’s abundance and beauty in our lives. We invite you to stop by, place a prayer request in our Prayer Box, stroll in our beautiful gardens and feel the peace and love of our spiritual home.
We look forward to your visit!
